Public Property-Vehicle Maintenance
The City of Ottawa Civil Service Commission is accepting applications to establish an eligibility register for future
positions in Public Works-Vehicle Maintenance Division.
Knowledge of ASE certification data is recommended, but not required for this examination.
Job Description: Under limited supervision, plans and performs skilled diagnostic and mechanical work in the
maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel powered automotive, construction, and other City vehicles. Maintains
a fleet data management system to update and maintain records of inventoried parts, vehicle use, and maintenance
performed, and repair costs. Performs other duties as assigned. Work schedule is normally 40 hours Monday thru
Friday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Ability to work in adverse weather and be subject to extended after-hours, weekend and holiday work.
- Perform service and repairs to vehicles, trucks and associated power equipment and systems using technical
manuals, hand, power and diagnostic tools. - Operate skid steer loader, backhoe, wheel loader, street sweeper, vactor, turf mowers and power equipment
during diagnostic and maintenance activity. - Occasionally be assigned to perform minor welding, leaf collection, material loading/unloading, snow removal
and salt application. - Ability to obtain advancing ASE certifications in auto, truck, emergency vehicle and component system
technologies.
Residency within five (5) miles of the corporate limits of the City of Ottawa must be established and maintained
within fifteen (15) months of employment.
Starting Salary: $62,920
Future employment is subject to satisfactorily passing a criminal background check, a physical agility test and a
medical examination which includes a test to screen for the use of drugs and/or narcotics.

Oral interviews will be held the week of November 18, 2024.
This exam will be given at IVCC Ottawa Center, 321 West Main Street, Ottawa, Illinois on
November 6, 2024 beginning promptly at 6:00 p.m.
Candidates arriving after 6:00 p.m. will be denied admittance.

required.
