Inspections
It is the responsibility of the property owner to make sure that all necessary inspections are performed. Inspections must be requested at least one working day prior to the day the inspection is to take place. When calling to schedule an inspection, please have the following information available:
- Permit Number
- Type of Inspection
- Date Requested for Inspection
- Address of Inspection
- Lot number and Subdivision
Approved plans and permit card must be onsite and available for the inspector.
INSPECTIONS REQUIRED
BUILDING
- After footings have been dug and BEFORE they are poured
- Foundation walls, prior to backfill: insulation, drain tile & wall coating (damp proofing) completed
- Pre-pour Slab Inspection after approval of mechanical/electric
- After all framing is completed and the building is “closed in”, but before insulation
- Structural steel inspection after decking has been installed with all connections exposed (Commercial Only)
- Insulation Inspection
- Public Sidewalk/Entrances
- Patios & Decks (Post Holes)
- Final Inspection
ELECTRIC
- Underground Electric, prior to backfill
- Electric Service
- Electrical Rough In
- Final – After all Electrical work has been completed
- Swimming Pools
- Making corrections as issued by the Electrical Inspector
PLUMBING
- Underground Plumbing, prior to backfill
- Sewer & Water Services
- Plumbing Rough In
- Final – After all Plumbing work has been completed
HVAC
- Any Underground HVAC
- After HVAC has been Roughed In/Above Ceiling
- After all HVAC work has been completed and before building is occupied.
Before occupying or using building, the building MUST BE 100% complete. The applicant must obtain a Certificate of Occupancy.
WATER AND SEWER SERVICE CONNECTIONS INSPECTIONS
Contractor shall notify Water Division at (815) 434-0025 and/or Wastewater Division at (815) 433-0245 not less than 48 hours in advance to schedule inspections.
STREET PERMITS
Contractor shall notify Bill Boettcher not less than 48 hours in advance to schedule inspections.
FENCES

POOLS

DEMOLITION
Contractor shall notify Bill Boettcher, not less than 48 hours in advance to schedule inspection for trenching in the street right-of-way,
Contractor shall notify Water Division at (815) 434-0025 not less than 48 hours in advance to schedule inspection of water service disconnection and abandonment of water service by contractor. Contractor shall expose corporation stop, close corporation stop and remove a minimum of 12 inches of service line from the corporation stop. Prior to the backfill, the City will measure the location and depth for our records.
Sewer Services: Sewer services are to be cut and plugged at the street-right-of-way or at the sewer main. The contractor shall notify Wastewater Division at (815) 433-0245 not less than 48 hours in advance to schedule an inspection. Prior to the backfill, the City will measure the location and depth for our records.
Contractor shall call the Building Official for inspections.
